Frequently Asked Questions

How and where do we purchase provisions?
Most people shop at the supermarket Chedraui located seven blocks
from the marina where our boats are docked. It is a very large supermarket similar to those found in the U.S. and Canada.
We have never had a complaint about the quality or variety of products at Chedraui. Many products are brought down the peninsula from the U.S. Beef comes from the state of Sinaloa. Its quality and price are fantastic and—in our opinion—superior to that of the U.S. There are some very good Mexican wines produced on the Baja as well as wines from the U.S, Chile and around the world. And most everyone is already familiar with Mexican beer because of its huge export market.
We will take you to Chedraui where you can shop at your leisure. Take a cab back to the marina—cab fares are very reasonable. Use credit cards, dollars or pesos for your purchases, but only pesos or dollars for cabs.

What is the best way to bring money?
Bring U.S. dollars and your credit or debit cards. It is best to exchange dollars for pesos from within Mexico because you’ll receive a better exchange rate that way. Chedraui will give good rates when you purchase provisions, or you can elect to use one of five ATMs at the store for Mexican pesos at daily bank exchange rates. Most restaurants accept dollars and many accept credit cards. Absolutely do NOT bring traveler’s checks! Banks in La Paz won’t accept them.
